Through the Years with Logan Master Appliance

Where the Logan Master Appliance Difference Began

In 1920, Wilbur Rayner had a vision to redefine laundry services in Dayton, Ohio, by bringing quality and convenience into the homes of many. This mission came alive when he started Working Man’s Laundry, which offered clothes washing and cleaning services with home delivery options to Daytonians from its Salem Avenue location. Six years later, Rayner changed his business’s name to Rayner’s Family Laundry to reflect his family’s growing involvement.

The Start of the Logan Name

Rayner’s daughter Doris married Joseph Logan, an Irish immigrant, in 1931. Shortly thereafter, Logan joined the laundry to support his growing family. It wasn’t too long, though, before Logan recognized that families were purchasing their own ringer washing machines for home use, and in 1939 he started the Logan Appliance and Service business.

Logan Family Resilience

A decade into the company’s founding, Logan suffered a serious leg injury in the 1940s that resulted in immobility and caused him to take a back seat in the Logan Appliance and Service business. For a time, Joe’s son John Logan picked up the pieces of the business, but eventually resigned in 1958.

Logan Master Appliance as We Know It

Logan Master Appliance, as we know it today, had its rebirth in 1978 when John and Anneita Logan got back into the appliance industry and opened a new shop in the basement of an apartment building off Far Hills Avenue in Dayton. John and Anneita were a team, with John providing the services and Anneita handling the financials. The pair were pioneers in the industry, among the first to hire service technicians and expand to new and used appliances as the business grew quickly. In 1981 Logan Master Appliance moved to a dedicated location on Wilmington Avenue in Kettering, Ohio.

The Logan Master Expansion

In 1986, Logan Master Appliance moved to its current location, 2205 S. Smithville Road. John and Anneita made a commitment to manage the business as a family and employed several relatives and honorary family members in the enterprise. In 2002 the team expanded services to heating and air conditioning installation and maintenance, an offering that lasted about 10 years.
