How to do a DIY Kitchen Renovation
Four Ways to Update Your Kitchen on a Budget
Kitchen trends come and go fast. It can seem almost impossible to keep your kitchen up to date without breaking the bank. However, there are many inexpensive things you can do to keep your kitchen looking fresh. With the help of the home renovation experts at Hey There, Home, Sherwin Williams and Annie Sloan, we compiled a list of easy DIY projects to give your kitchen a mini-makeover on a hot summer day.
- Apply a fresh coat of paint
One of the best ways to transform any space is to give it a fresh coat of paint. Whether that means giving your current shade a boost, or picking an entirely new color, this is where every kitchen makeover should start. This summer, we are loving warm-toned neutrals! - Give your cabinets a chalk paint job
Chalk paint is extremely versatile, stylish, and much less expensive than buying new cabinets. Before you start your cabinet makeover, here are a few things you will need:
- Chalk paint (Annie Sloan is our favorite)
- A chalk paint brush
- Painters tape
- Plastic to cover the floor and counter tops
- Paint trays
Chalk paint can be used on almost any surface, and can give worn-out cabinets a pop of color. To see the full process, click here.
- Reupholster dining chairs
Reupholstering your dining chairs can change the entire look of your kitchen. Luckily, the process is simple enough that we are confident anyone can do this! To make things even better, you can use the same chalk paint from your cabinets! Here are the steps broken down:
- Disassemble chairs
- Use pliers to remove staples that hold the fabric to the cushions
- Wrap new fabric around cushions, pull corners tightly under the cushion and staple
- Sand the wooden section of the chair
- Paint with chalk paint
Personalized pieces are a great way to warm up any space in your home. Some of our favorite ways to make your kitchen special include:
- Using empty space to create a chalk board wall
- Creating a coffee station on an antique side table
- A personalized menu board
- Wall decals
